Witton Albion FC, on behalf of the Witton Albion FC Development Fund, are pleased to announce that a Sporting Dinner is to be held in their social club on Thursday 4 February when the guest speaker will be former Manchester United player, coach and manager, Wilf McGuinness.
Manchester born Wilf, a prolific speaker, still retains his connections with United and is chairman of their former player's association, and we feel sure he will have many a tale to tell of his days on and off the field.
Wilf signed for United in January 1953, making his first team debut in October 1955, just 17 days before his 18th birthday, and he made enough appearances that season to qualify for a League Champions medal at the end of season.
Injury prevented him from making the ill-fated trip in February 1958 and just 12 months later his career was over as a result of a broken leg at 22 years-of-age.
His coaching and managerial career at United following his enforced retirement is well documented, but what is perhaps forgotten is that Wilf was involved in various England teams as a coach, leading upto that day at Wembley in 1966 when England won the ultimate prize.
As well as Wilf, the Club are also hoping to have another former player in attendance who will answer a number of football related questions from diners, and with the comedy provided by Billy Bean, it promises to be a good night all round.
A three course hot pot dinner can be yours for just £20.00 per ticket, or £150.00 for a table of eight. Reception is 7.30pm for dining at 8.00pm.
Anyone interested in booking either a seat or table can do so by contacting commercial director Graham Pickering on 07792 876 341
