At the recent opening of the new Sport Dronfield complex at Gosforth Fields, Sheffield FC presented Sir Trevor Brooking, FA Director of Football Development and ex West Ham United and England player, with an honorary life membership of Sheffield FC.
Presenting the certificate to Sir Trevor on behalf of Sheffield FC was Lee Walshaw, Sheffield FC Club & Community Development Manager. Sir Trevor joins Sepp Blatter, Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Geoff Hurst amongst others as an honorary life member.
The new complex at Gosforth Fields is used by AFC Dronfield, Dronfield Town FC, Sheffield FC Juniors and Dronfield Rugby Club.
The project, which covers an area of 25 acres and has provided the clubs with 2 rugby pitches, 6 11-a-side football pitches, a number of mini-soccer pitches and a full-sized floodlit 3G astroturf pitchalong with a state of the art eco-friendly clubhouse, was jointly funded by both the Football Foundation and Rugby Foundation in a unique partnership involving all of the clubs.
The astroturf pitch has already seen Sheffield FC junior sides training and playing matches on it, whilst Chesterfield FC have also used it for a number of first team training sessions during the recent bad weather.
