The weather continued to wreak havoc with the fixture list and all UniBond midweek games were once again lost to the snow and ice that covered the country. However, in the midst of all the white stuff there was one little ray of sunshine on Tuesday when GUISELEY travelled to the North East to overcome those famed FA Cup battlers Blyth Spartans and reach the last sixteen of this season’s FA Trophy where they have a home tie against either Gainsborough Trinity or Tamworth awaiting. Guiseley secured their victory the hard way having been reduced to ten men in the 22nd minute.
By Saturday there was some respite from the chill but still only 6 games went ahead with one of those being a hastily re-arranged League Challenge Cup tie between BOSTON UNITED and SHEFFIELD FC when their respective league games were called off. Boston became the only team through to the last eight so far when they won 2-0.
First and last minute goals from Tyeisse Nightingale helped HUCKNALL TOWN to a 5-2 win over BURSCOUGH who had twice levelled and that success sent Hucknall in to the play-off spots at the expense of weather victims ASHTON UNITED. In the one other top tier game to survive NORTH FERRIBY UNITED confirmed their top four credentials with a 2-0 victory against MATLOCK TOWN.
It was the same story in the First Division North with just two games being played with one of those seeing leaders LANCASTER CITY open up a six point gap with two games in hand when they beat SALFORD CITY 4-1.
The other match saw AFC FYLDE beat WOODLEY SPORTS 2-1 whilst in the sole surviving fixture in the First Division South STAMFORD registered only their second win on the road when winning at LINCOLN UNITED.
