Marine appoint new President and Secretary

Evo-stik Premier League Club Marine announces that John Hall has been appointed Club President replacing the retiring David Wotherspoon and Richard Cross has been appointed Club Secretary replacing John Wildman who has also retired. The appointments were confirmed at Marine’s annual general meeting held last week. David Wotherspoon has been President for five years but has been actively involved in the running of Marine since the 1970’s in various roles. David, the author of “The Mighty Mariners” book documenting the history of Marine, continues his involvement as an Hon. Life Member and Vice President. John Wildman has been Secretary for twenty years but has served on the Clubs management committee since 1975. He was also the Programme Editor for 14 seasons in addition for a number of years providing the match reports for the Crosby Herald. In recognition of John’s service he was appointed an Hon. Life Member at Tuesday’s annual general meeting. John is also a Vice President of Marine.

Marine Chairman Paul Leary said:

“Both David Wotherspoon and John Wildman are lifelong supporters of Marine Football Club and have given utmost devotion and commitment to their beloved football club. They are what Marine is all about and I thank them for the massive contribution that they have made over many years.

I welcome Richard Cross as our new Secretary and John Hall as our new President. Richard, 24, works in the leisure and tourism industry and is only our fourth Club Secretary in about 80 years which is amazing. He has been football secretary at Marine for two seasons and now steps up to a role in which I know he will enjoy and do well. John, 56, who has his own fashion accessory companies, has been involved for many years at Marine as committee man, sponsor and fan. I know that he regards his appointment as the pinnacle of his long association with Marine and he is very proud to become our Club President.”

Paul Leary added:

“I look forward to working with Richard and John in the years ahead and this will assist in providing the ongoing stability that the Club has enjoyed for many years.”
