News from Romulus

Romulus kicked off their warm up matches at Coalville last weekend with several trialists and youth team players on show. An entertaining 2-2 draw was played out in a keenly contested match at Owen Street despite very hot and dry conditions.

Boss Richard Evans was pleased with the workout for his players as well as having the opportunity to run the rule over some new faces.

As yet, the Roms boss hasn't made any decisions on the trialists who played alongside 11 first teamers, taking part in two completely different sides either side of half time.

As expected most of last seasons squad, who led Romulus to their highest ever finish, have been retained with the exception of Colm Tiernan who has signed for Solihull Moors in the Blue Square Bet North.

This Saturday Romulus travel to Wellingborough Town of the United Counties League (KO 3pm) before another trip, this time to Pelsall Villa on Tuesday (KO 7.30pm).

*Romulus have this week received confirmation of their league schedule for the 2010-11 season. The Roms start with a tough trip to Grantham Town on the opening day (Saturday 21st August) before hosting Leicestershire side Quorn on the following Tuesday in their first home match.

After this the FA Cup kicks in with a trip to local rivals Rushall Olympic, who the Roms beat in the Birmingham Senior Cup last season before losing the Walsall Senior Cup semi-final to the same opponents.

In a break from tradition, the final game of the season will be played on a Bank Holiday Monday with a mouthwatering derby lined up against landlords Sutton Coldfield Town.

*Next weekend (Saturday 24th July) sees the Roms only home friendly against Evostik Premier Division side Chasetown.

Kick off at Coles Lane is 3pm with just £3 admission for adults and children (Under 16s) can watch for just £1. There will also be a programme issued on the day introducing the new faces in Richard Evans squad as well as a preview to the new season and full details of the Roms fixtures for 2010-11.
