Witton Welcome Chester City Fans

Witton Albion have extended the hand of football friendship to supporters of fellow Cheshire side Chester City to their remaining UniBond South league games at their Wincham Park home.

Albion, who remain in contention of at least a play-off position, are hopeful that many may take the offer up. Football Secretary Graham Shuttleworth explained: "It is without doubt the worse thing that could happen to any football supporter, and that is to see your club removed from whatever league you're competing in. It must be a double blow to the supporters of Chester City after having enjoyed Football League status.

"We will be more than happy to allow any Chester supporter, who can produce a season ticket or can prove membership of their City Fans United organisation, free admission. Obviously we can't offer them the same level of football as they've watched previously, but until such time as they can reform, in whatever shape and in whatever league that may be in, then they can keep in touch with the non-league scene, and at a good standard.

"To make sure that the younger element at Chester don't miss their Saturday football match, anyone under 14-years-of-age who is accompanied by an adult can gain access for free also.

"As we're hoping to at least be involved in the play-offs come the end of the season, I'm sure that they'll enjoy the games that remain."

The Wincham Park side, who moved to their ground some twenty years ago, also have the capability of hosting Conference level football, after playing host to their neighbours, Northwich Victoria, for a couple off seasons, as well as having enjoyed a spell in the Conference themselves, during which time they played in The FA Trophy Final at Wembley.

Albion chairman Mark Harris said: "These are sad times for a fantastic club in Chester City, and the least we can do is to extend the hand of friendship to Chester supporters who are now without a team to watch for the remainder of this season. They are sure of a warm welcome at Wincham Park."
