The Board of Directors of Stamford AFC are sad to announce the death of vice chairman Richard Jacobs at the age of 67.
Richard was a lifelong supporter of the Daniels. He first joined the board as treasurer in 1974. After three years with the club he left the area through his work as an accountant, but continued as a follower of non league football initially with Altrincham and later Yeovil Town.
On returning to Stamford in 1987 Richard rejoined the club as treasurer and director. Having served continuously as a director, Richard became vice chairman in 1999 and resumed the treasurer role on the death of Hilary Hudson three years ago.
Richard remained a regular attender at Daniels’ matches home and away and was in the chair for the club’s 2010 Annual General Meeting just a few days before his death.
He was also a keen supporter of the national team, a member of the England Supporters Club and followed England widely throughout Europe. He had planned to travel to the World Cup in South Africa this summer.
A minute’s silence will be observed before Stamford’s home match with Cammell Laird on Saturday.
